The second part of the Green Cathedral project involves energy. The energy working group is currently identifying the best way for each institution in the precinct to utilise energy wisely, and to employ alternative, clean energy. Co-generation, for example, can be economically viable and would be adaptable to the varying needs of each institution within the precinct. The University of Adelaide is assessing the feasibility of a solar generation power plant for the precinct.
John Maitland, from Energy Architecture convenes the energy working group and conducted an energy audit of St Peter’s Cathedral in October 2007. The Cathedral is currently implementing John's suggestions, and other institutions within the precinct are following the Cathedral's lead.
While the current focus is on the water project, serious planning in relation to energy use of the precint will commence this year.
