Situated in the beautiful Adelaide parklands, the Green Cathedral Project precinct lies North of the Central Business District. Its borders include: Montefiore Road to the West; Torrens River to the South; King William Road to the East; and Pennington Terrace, together with Kermode Street, adjoined by Palmer Place, to the North.
The Parklands provide an area for relaxation and recreation at the heart of Adelaide, and are used for events and functions throughout the year. The Torrens River is a popular location for rowing and other water sports, while the riverbank is accessible for walking and bike-riding. International and local sporting competitions at the historic Adelaide Oval and the Tennis SA grounds attract thousands of visitors each year. And for those who enjoy exercising in State-of-the-Art fitness facilities, Next Generation Health and Racquet Club and the Memorial Drive Tennis Club provide a range of health and fitness opportunities.
At the northern end of the precinct, the St. Peter’s Cathedral is one of the most historic buildings and best-known Churches in Australia. It is not only a centre for spirituality, but also for music and the arts. Adjacent to the Cathedral is St. Mark's College, a residential college providing a home away from home, for more than 200 university students from both Australia and overseas.
This Green Cathedral Project looks to creating an environmentally sustainable precint through improved water and energy management.
